Horses are a very important part of field trialing & training our dogs. They allow us to keep up with the dog as the brace may cover several miles of countryside. The dogs learn which horse we ride and will take cues for direction from that horse while handling in front of us at great distances. They also allow us to judge the dogs, plant birds off horse back, or scout a lost dog. Veteran field trial horses even seem to always know where that dog disappeared too. Some wildlife areas around the country even allow horseback hunting affording hunters with disabilities a chance to watch the action and keep pace their bird dog.
